As we all know, the hair and beauty industry are constantly coming up with new and different trends designed to keep us engaged and trying new things.
The facts are, that many are gimmicks with strong marketing and only last one season. You try them, fail and move on...
Only those with real merit are able to stand the test of time.
In this blog we're looking at Reverse washing, Co-washing and Pre-pooing. What on earth are they? And which ones will stick around?
So what is Reverse Washing?
First you condition, then you shampoo. Huh?
Ideal result - heavy conditioner residues are rinsed out, so hair is not weighed down.
The creation of this particular trend in our opinion, is due to the one and only ingredient 'silicone' aka heavy residue.
It's present in most mainstream conditioners, providing slip and softness. Major down side is its weight, leaving most hair types heavy and greasy after only one day.
Cue reverse washing...problem solved right?
Wrong - all this does is mask the problem, the real culprit here is the silicone.
If you want ultra light-weight, clean, soft hair, try Revelry Hair Co. Not even our styling products contain silicone so you'll never have to worry about heavy, lank hair or greasy roots.
What is Co-Washing?
Short for “conditioner-only washing.” It means skipping shampoo and relying solely on conditioner, whether you're a daily or a weekly washer.
Ideal result - something between squeaky-clean and second-day hair that is, smoother, softer, and easier to manage.
The concept behind this stems from the idea that washing your hair less trains the scalp to balance its production of sebum better and intern get less greasy sooner. This in part is true however if your not properly cleansing the dirt/product/build up off the scalp regularly, your scalp will never truly look or feel clean.
With a gentle SLS & silicone free formula like Revelry Hair Co, the outcome should always be a clean, healthy, grease free scalp, so no need to skip the cleaning part.
What is a Pre-pooing?
This is done before you shampoo your hair.
Oil is applied to the hair and scalp the night before or right before you shampoo.
Ideal result - soft hair that's easily detangled and ultra hydrated because it's been able to retain extra key ingredients after being shampooed.
This method is not a trend it's an absolute staple in any hair regime and we think it's here to stay!
Repair Elixir has been specifically designed for this method of use. It also means that the nutrient rich oil can be applied directly to the scalp and hair without any worry of greasy residue, as the hair is cleansed post treatment.
